ASTRONOMY AND ASTROPHYSICS Search for young stars among ROSAT All-Sky Survey X-ray sources in and around the R CrA dark cloud

چکیده
We present the ROSAT All-Sky Survey data in a 126 deg area in and around the CrA star forming region. With low-resolution spectroscopy of unidentified ROSAT sources we could find 19 new pre-main sequence stars, two of which are classical T Tauri stars, the others being weak-lined. The spectral types of these new T Tauri stars range from F7 to M6. The two new classical T Tauri stars are located towards two small cloudlets outside of the main CrA cloud. They appear to be ∼ 10 Myrs old, by comparing their location in the H-R diagram with isochrones for an assumed distance of 130 pc, the distance of the main CrA dark cloud. The new offcloud weak-line T Tauri stars may have formed in similar cloud-lets, which have dispersed recently. High-resolution spectra of our new T Tauri stars show that they have significantly more lithium absorption than zero-age mainsequence stars of the same spectral type, so that they are indeed young. From those spectra we also obtained rotational and radial velocities. For some stars we found the proper motion in published catalogs. The direction and velocity of the 3D space motion – south relative to the galatic plane – of the CrA T Tauri stars is consistent with the dark cloud being formed originally by a high-velocity cloud impact onto the galactic plane, which triggered the star formation in CrA. We also present VRIJHK photometry for most of the new T Tauri stars to derive their luminosities, ages, and masses. ASTRONOMY AND ASTROPHYSICS Search for GRB afterglows in the ROSAT all-sky survey
We report on the status of our search for Xray afterglows of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) using the ROSAT all-sky survey (RASS) data. The number of potential X-ray afterglow candidates with respect to the expected number of beamed GRBs allows to constrain the relative beaming angles of GRB emission and afterglow emission at about 1-5 hrs after the GRB.
متن کاملASTRONOMY AND ASTROPHYSICS Search for GRB X-ray afterglows in the ROSAT all-sky survey
We describe a search for X-ray afterglows from gamma-ray bursts using the ROSAT all-sky survey (RASS) data. If the emission in the soft X-ray band is significantly less beamed than in the gamma-ray band, we expect to detect many afterglows in the RASS. Our search procedure generated 23 afterglow candidates, where about 4 detections are predicted. However, follow-up spectroscopy of several count...
متن کاملThe ROSAT All-Sky Survey: a Catalog of Clusters of Galaxies in a Region of 1 Ster around the South Galactic Pole
A field of 1.013 ster in the ROSAT all-sky survey (RASS), centered on the south galactic pole (SGP), has been searched in a systematic, objective manner for clusters of galaxies. The procedure relied on a correlation of the X-ray positions and properties of ROSAT sources in the field with the distribution of galaxies in the COSMOS digitised data base, which was obtained from scanning the plates...
متن کاملA Catalog of Background Stars Reddened by Dust in the Taurus Dark Clouds
Normal field stars located behind dense clouds are a valuable resource in interstellar astrophysics, as they provide continua in which to study phenomena such as gas-phase and solid-state absorption features, interstellar extinction and polarization. This paper reports the results of a search for highly reddened stars behind the Taurus Dark Cloud complex. We use the Two Micron All Sky Survey (2...
متن کاملA Chandra Study of the Rosette Star-Forming Complex. II. Clusters in the Rosette Molecular Cloud
We explore here the young stellar populations in the Rosette Molecular Cloud (RMC) region with high spatial resolution X-ray images from the Chandra X-ray Observatory, which are effective in locating weak-lined T Tauri stars as well as disk-bearing young stars. A total of 395 X-ray point sources are detected, 299 of which (76%) have an optical or near-infrared (NIR) counterpart identified from ...
